We suspect human error at the factory, the other rod bolt was bent and in the sump, we came to the conclusion that haans at the factory in germany didnt do the clicky clicky with his torque wrench on that bolt, and it has freed itself, dropped out and then left all the work to bolt 2, which eventually snapped and pinged through the side...

We always stop the sketchy drivers and pull it in ourselves. We have the right to make anyone get out if we feel we need to. In the end if they drive themselves in the pit the liability is on them as far as corporate is concerned

The jack is how I got him out. Guy was on his phone and couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to the tech guiding him up

Ramp/Move team tug driver was going way too fast, and apparently slid while connected to a 777-300ER

The torque links that you see hanging off the side there are supposed to be facing aft. The inner cylinder is spun 180 from where it should be in this picture(Lower attach point for the torque link is facing forward, and tow bar attach point is facing aft). The steering actuator is waaaay past it’s stops

It was a very expensive repair...

...It was one hell of a scary test drive. Not to mention the half shaft bearing so shot too it sounded like a jet taking off and the latteral link so loose the rear end was shifting from one side to another

My guess is it had an mechanical problem inside the injector that allowed it to continue to drip with the key off and gush fuel with no restriction with the key on.

Hans at the factory in Germany wouldn’t be doing anything with a “clicky-clicky,” for the most part everything fastened together on a car is done with calibrated torque tools whether electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic.

it’s actually interesting to watch engines being assembled. When you install a cylinder head in your garage, you torque the head bolts down in sequence. at the factory, they all get torqued down simultaneously by a “nut runner.”

Re the Honda in the pit.

All it takes is one skilled lawyer to tear that company apart and argue negligence on the part of the company. The driver was their phone you say? Why didn’t your tech stop them? We tell people to be careful. Oh really? Why don’t you just pull the vehicles in yourself since you’re the experts?

Sorry, but eventually this company is going to get the pants sued off them, and rightfully so. There’s absolutely no reason for the customer drive the car in themselves. Just make them step out.

But it’s way more fun to just constantly say “German over-engineering” to reinforce our own beliefs.

no, German cars are “over-engineered” (as in they seem to value designing in as many potential failure modes as possible.)  my point was that the way mechanics reassemble things isn’t the same as how the factory does it.

As someone that uses ProDemand, it can be absolutely unhelpful sometimes.
